Aggrieved
former militants who belonged
to different UG groups today
formed an association namely
All Manipur Surrendered
Welfare Association
(AMSWA) and the association
has called a State-wide general
strike from 5 am of September
2 till 6 pm of September 5 .
Speaking to media persons
at Manipur Press Club here
today, AMSWA secretary
Kaji Umar said that they were
calling the general strike in
protest against the Govern-
ment's alleged policy of
suppression.
Monthly stipends and
fixed deposits made in the
name of 493 surrendered UG
cadres by the Government
have not been paid since
2011. Although the State
Home Department and other
relevant authorities have been
approached repeatedly, there
has been no response till date.
Emergency services and reli-
gious activities would not be
covered by the general strike,
he added.
