Chandel, October 25 2015 :
After a massive landslide hit Sulam area of Chandel District on July 31 last, the villages in the area have been severely affected by a near total breakdown of road connectivity, power supply and scarcity of potable water.
The villagers narrated their woes to media persons accompanying a visiting team of PHED Chandel Division on Saturday.
The team was also accompanied by MDC of 13-Vomku DCC Ts Kanlun and village chiefs.
According to the locals, the villagers of Larong Khullen, Darchol, Challong, Vomku and Thungtam have been suffering for almost two and half months without proper supply of drinking water due to the damage caused to GI pipelines at the intake and collection chambers of Dujang Lok.
On reaching Challong, the visiting team walked on a 4 km long foot-path to reach the Dujang Lok to assess the damage caused to the main source of drinking water.

Section Officer of PHED Chandel Division BD Jameson said PHED Chandel took up the water supply scheme and completed it in 2006 .
Since then, villagers enjoyed water supply for about 10 years.
However, the landslide on July 31 last had caused extensive damage of 50mm GI pipelines measuring about 500m including intake and collection chamber.
The site could not be inspected then due to rainfall and poor road conditions even though the department was informed on time.
Jameson assured that he would apprise the matter to his superiors for immediate restoration of the water supply scheme at the earliest.
MDC Kanlun also appealed for immediate restoration of the scheme and pointed out that villagers were fetching water from streams three to four kilometers far away.
Due to the collapse of electric posts during the July landslide, the entire area has also not been receiving power supply.
