Imphal, October 25 2015 :
Democratic Students' Alliance of Manipur (DESAM) has urged the State Government and Manipur Public Service Commission (MPSC) to postpone the recruitment examination of Assistant Professors to be held on October 27 .
Speaking at a press conference held at their Keishampat office, DESAM president Moirangthem Angamba said that MPSC issued a recruitment notification to fill up 28 vacant posts of Assistant Professor in different Government colleges of the State on November 15 last year.
However, many candidates have been rejected as the essential qualification was mentioned in an ambiguous manner in the said notification, he alleged.
Saying that DESAM has investigated the matter after some candidates informed the students' body about the mess, Angamba said that it has now come to the notice of DESAM that there were many loopholes in the MPSC's notification.
He said that although NET/SLET/SET was the minimum educational requirement for these posts, the notification stated that the candidates who fulfil the required 'standard and procedure' given in the latest regulations of UGC issued in 2009 may also apply for the post even if he/she is not a NET qualified candidate.
Although, some candidates who got PhD after 2009 were exempted from NET, many candidates who got PhD before 2009 have been rejected as they have not qualified for NET, Angamba said.
After these controversies arose, Angamba said, as MPSC issued another notification for the candidates who had registered for PhD or got PhD before 2009 to submit compliance certificates within October 24 .
However, many candidates have no compliance certificates as the authority concerned had never issued any such certificate to them, Angamba said.
As such, the State Government must make an arrangement for these candidates so that they may appear in the examination, Angamba said.
He said that the fate of these candidates are uncertain as the University authorities are also not responding properly regarding the matter.
Considering the inconvenience of these candidates, MPSC must postpone the recruitment examination to be held on October 27, he said.
He said that a total of 600 candidates including 35 of Education subject have been rejected by MPSC for not fulfilling the eligibility criteria.
