97th Birth Anniversary Of Mairenbam Koireng Observed
Fitting tributes paid to first CM of Manipur

The 97th Birth Anniversary of freedom fighter and the first Chief Minister of Manipur Mairenbam Koireng was observed today at INA Hall, Moirang under the aegis of M Koireng Singh Memorial Trust.
Chief Minister O Ibobi and Deputy CM Gaikhangam led the gatherings in paying floral tribute to the statue of the late M Koireng.
Speaking as the chief guest of the observance programme, O Ibobi remembered the former leader as a man of integrity and a principled leader.
He said that the late M Koireng had cherished peaceful coexistence of all communities of the State without any dividing line.
The Chief Minister also remembered M Koireng as an exemplary leader, who once joined the INA as a freedom fighter and who worked relentlessly for the cause of democracy.
O Ibobi further called upon the people to emulate the principles of M Koireng and follow his footsteps as a mark of respect to the departed leader.
Mairenbam Koireng was born on December 19, 1915 at Moirang Mairenbam Leikai as the fifth and youngest child of M Chaoyaima and Tombichou Devi.
He overcame several odds to become the first CM of Manipur.
He passed away on December 27, 1994 .

Delivering the presidential address, Dy CM Gaikhangam reminisced M Koireng as a Gandhian, who believed in non-violence.
Maintaining that the former Chief Minister, who has leadership qualities, was well exemplary leader, Gaikhangam called upon the people to cherish and work towards the realisation of the visions and dreams of M Koireng.
A district level spot painting competition was also held to commemorate the occasion.
K Suker Singh of Little Bird School, Moirang; Winet Singh of St Xavier's School and Sumsum Malemnganba of Bishnupur Kha Govt Jr HS were declared 1st, 2nd and 3rd position winner of the competition.
A state level seminar on M Koireng: His Life and Works will be held tomorrow as a part of the birth anniversary observance where several resource persons would deliver speech.
