Imphal, July 18 2011:
Close on the heels of a tripartite agreement signed today between West Bengal government, Central government and Gorkha Janmukti Morcha for a new-autonomous Gorkha Territorial Administration (GTA), the Sadar Hills district demand in Manipur is back in the reckoning after a prolonged lull with the demand committee drawing a comprehensive road map at a meeting in Kangpokpi today.
The meeting deliberated on the socio-political and economic backwardness of the area and the public sentiment steering the renewed political and democratic movement for a full fledged district of Sadar Hills.
This was disclosed by the Sadar Hills District Demand Committee members after a joint meeting today of the committee and political parties held at District Council in Kangpokpi.
The committee's general secretary and president Tonghen Kipgen and Ngamkhohao Haokip said political parties are deeply concerned with the aspirations of the citizens of Sadar Hills for their economic development and administrative convenience.
The meeting directed political parties and politicians in Sadar Hills to apprise their respective high commands to translate into action the genuine demand of the people for a full fledged district while also resolving that all political parties should support and work for its realization.
