Imphal, March 16 2013 :
Four Zeliangrong bodies have sought the immediate intervention of Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam in securing the safe release of a 'missing girl' from the custody of some unknown persons.
In a joint memorandum submitted to the Deputy Chief Minister, Chairman of Zeliangrong Students' Union, Manipur (ZSUM) D Stephen Zeme, Joint Secretary of Zeliangrong Youth Front (Assam, Manipur and Nagaland) David Kamei, Chairman of Zeliangrong Youth Front (Imphal West Zone) Hounilung Panmei and Chairman of Zeliangrong Youth Front (Bishnupur ) Zone Premjit Gondaimei pointed out that 14-year old Alice Kamei d/o Chakri alias Punshichao Kamei of Chingphu Kamei village under Wangoi police station, Bishnupur district has been missing from the hostel of Grace Reach English Academy, Hiyanglam where she has been studying for the last 3 years and presently reading in class IX since the morning of March 10 .
The joint memorandum further pointed out that it was reliably learnt that another girl named Khaidem Sanahanbi Devi (15) d/o late Kh Shyam Singh of Upokpi, Bishnupur reading in the same school in class X had accompanied Alice Kamei and both are traceless.
The family members of Alice Kamei came to know about the matter only when a mobile phone call was received from the Principal of the school.
When the family members went to the school the following day to authenticate the report, a scuffle broke out between the party of the missing girl's parents and the combined party of the school authorities and mother of Kh Sanahanbi Devi, who is alleged to have accompanied Alice Kamei.
Thereafter, mother of Alice Kamei received a call from mobile phone no.9612191304 on March 13 and another call from mobile phone no.9862182585 on March 14 from a caller who claimed to be a functionary of RPF/PLA, informing that the missing girl is in the custody of the outfit.
The missing girl's mother also received phone call from mobile phone no.9436877210 in the evening of the same day (March 14) apart from another call from mobile phone no.9402039390 received by the maternal uncle of the missing girl from one unknown person who claimed himself to be a District Commander of RPF/PLA.
Following persistent pressures from the side of the family members, the unknown caller assured the mother of the missing girl that her daughter would return home safely and told them not to disclose the matter either to the police or the media.
Consequently, the family members and relatives of the missing girl remained silent fearing for the safety and security of the minor girl.
However, the matter has become a grave concern for the family members as the unknown persons have been keeping the minor girl in custody at an undisclosed location for such a long time and the effort to contact the unknown captors have remained in vain after all the mobile phones used by them for calling up the family members have switched off, the joint memorandum said.
The four Zeliangrong bodies have also warned of taking recourse to various intense forms of agitations in collaboration with several other civil and human rights organizations in case of failure on the part of the Government and its concerned authorities to secure the release of the missing girl.
