A one day discussion on the present scenario of Hindustani classical music in Manipurwas organised at Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College, Palace Compound today under the aegis of All Manipur Music Association (AMMA).
Speaking at the event, Cultural Coordinator, Manipur, Shamurailatpam Nabachandra Sharma (Naba Volcano) assured that he would appeal the authority concerned to include syllabus for music from class V to VI as well as to appoint necessary teachers.
AMMA secretary A Rabindra Singh said that the conditions of the people working in connection with Hindustani classical music in the State is deteriorating day by day and as such the situation has reached such a stage that one day, it might disappear from Manipur.
Ever since Hindustan classical music institutions cropped up in the State at around 1962-63, the State has produced many Bisharads.
Manipur also has many diploma and degree holders in Hindustani classical music who studied outside the State.
But more often than not, these people often are faced with a dilemma while returning to the State after many years as they fail to get a foothold in the State, he said and cited other reasons for the gradual lost in interest in Hindustani classical music like light music.
On the other hand, he appealed to the State Government to appoint necessary classical music teachers for the private and Government schools and also informed that a refresher course will be in the offing, for the music teachers who possess necessary diplomas and degrees, after getting necessary approval from BOSEM and COHSEM.
He also informed that on August 19 last year, a total of 206 music students of 12 private schools (both class X and XII) appeared the necessary exam and 86 students passed.
