Senapati, November 11 2018:
The ongoing Senapati District Students' Association week is being organized to raise fund for the esteemed office building construction of SDSA.
As SDSA stands committed to work for the welfare of the people in general and students in particular, it is expected to set a good example for others to emulate.
Raising fund for a good purpose is legitimate and indisputable, but when the means to achieve its end goes wrong, it is unjustifiable, said a statement of Senapati District Baptist Associations' Fellowship (SDBAF) today.
The statement was released by Rev Koda, executive secy, Mao Baptist Churches Association (MBCA), Rev H Kaba, executive secy, Maram Naga Baptist Association (MRNBA), Rev P James, executive secy, Poumai Naga Baptist Association (PNBA) and Rev Apila, executive secy, Thangal Naga Baptist Association (TNBA).
"Selling alcohol and wine openly and freely is not encouraged in our society.
Drunkenness generates lot of problems; if wine and alcohol are sold in the open places, it amounts to encouraging drunkenness.
Gambling is subject to fraud and exploitation - if it is legalized, it is addictive and destructive than many other addictions.
An apex student body selling wine and alcohol, and involving in open gambling is unbecoming and deprecatory, said the statement condemning the student body for allegedly 'setting a bad precedent to the society, particularly to the students'.
"The Senapati District Baptist Associations' Fellowship (SDBAF) strongly discourages and condemns the reproachful acts in SDSA week; it has created an inglorious history," the statement added.
Such activities tarnished SDSA own image and eroded credibility.
'SDSA needs to apologize to the public.
The Senapati District Baptist Associations' Fellowship (SDBAF) is utterly appalled and disgruntled by the demeaning act spearheaded by SDSA.
Such activities should be condemned by every sensible citizen and organization and we should not give any room for such heinous activities to be repeated in our land in future," the statement said.
