Fishes to be sold at discount: Minister

Fisheries Minister S Rajen Singh has announced that his Department will organise a fish exhibition at eastern side of Mapal Kangjeibung as a part of Ningol Chakkouba festival.
Fishes, particularly local products will be sold at 20% less price than the previous year's price.
The exhibition aims to encourage fish farmers, he said.
Speaking at a press conference held in the conference hall of his office at South Block, Old Secretariat building, Rajen said arrangements will also be made to open fish outlets in some selected towns and district headquarters of the valley in view of the Ningol Chakkouba festival.
He said more than 90,000 kilograms of fishes will be put on sale during the exhibition.
Varieties of fishes like Catla, Rohu, Mrigal, Common Carp, Grass Carp, Silver Carp, Pengba/Khabak and Ngaton etc will be available.
This will substitute the imported fishes.
Prices of the fishes have also been fixed.
Pengba and Khabak weighing below 300 grams will be available at Rs 360/Kg; 300 grams above at Rs 520/Kg.Ngaton will be sold at Rs 360/Kg; Catla, Rohu, Mrigal at 168/Kg, Common Carp at 160/Kg .
The prices of a particular fish may vary according to its weight, he said.
The Minister also maintained that in order to increase fish production in the State, Government owned fish farms will be improved.
Biofloc fish farming has been introduced in the State and farmers have been trained.
Farmers in hilly regions will be encouraged to adopt biofloc fish farming, he added.
Director, Fisheries Department, N Gojendro Singh was also present.
