Parties prepare for IMC election as per election notification

With the issuance of public notice for the elections to the Imphal Municipal Council (IMC), political parties have intensified their election strategies.
Some of them have even announced their prepared list of candidatures.
The state election commission issued the formal notification of the conduct of elections to the 27 wards of the IMC on May 25, which would be first ever to be held under the Manipur Municipal Community Participation Act-2010 .
As per the notification, the last date of filing of nomination papers is May 9 and scrutiny will be held on the next day.
The last date for withdrawal of candidatures is on May 12 .
Polling hours will be from 8 am to 4 pm and if need arises, re-polling will be held on May 27 before the counting of votes which will be held on May 29 .
Imphal East DC who is the Municipal Election Officer of seven wards in Imphal east district has issued the formal notification to signify the election code of conduct in the district.
The commission is targeting to complete the election process by June 2.Following the notification, political parties have intensified their electioneering.
The Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) has announced the names of the candidates who will be contesting in 24 of the 27 wards including those who will contest in reserved seats for women and ST candidates.
The Congress candidates are S Binarani in ward no.1, A Jiwanlata in ward no.2, S Surangini in ward no.3, L Arekumar (Gandhi) in ward no.4, P Baleshwar in ward no.5, M Ranisana Devi in ward no.6, I Ranita in ward no.7, K Tikendro in ward no.8, S Sunilkumar in ward no.9, S Tiken in in ward no.10, A Romakanta in ward no.12, N Raghumani in ward no.13, S Reeta in ward no.14, B Memcha in ward no.15, G Radhamani in ward no.17, A Nimai in ward no.18, RK Bina in ward no.19, L Tombi in ward no.20, Ksh Umesh in ward no.21, Seikhomang Lupho in ward no.22, L Memcha Devi in ward no.23, M Majaiguilu Maringmei in ward no.26 and Ch Memcha in ward no.27.Candidates of ward no.11, 16, 24 are yet to be declared.
BJP Manipur Pradesh also made an announcement of three candidates to be in the fray.
They are M Debendro for ward no 3 (Thangmeiband Mandal), Ph Prameshwori for ward no.6 (Uripok Mandal) and Y Ratikanta (Boy) for ward no.19 (Yaiskul Mandal).
The MPP announced name of one candidate today.
Koijam Kiranbala will contest the election from ward no.17 as its nominee.
In may be recalled that opposition parties, particularly BJP and MPP had mooted pre-poll alliance but so far it seems no consensus in seat sharing has been achieved.
