Imphal, February 03, 2013:
AMADA and CADA have joined hands on the common demands of finding out the real owner of the Pseudoephedrine consignment worth Rs 1.4 crore which was seized from Tulihal Airport and revival of the Special Investigation Unit (SIU).
Even as police claimed that the drugs seized by Imphal West SIU from the airport on January 11 belonged to one Md Rajauddin of Lilong Shambrukhong, CADA president Arambam Rabindra maintained that Md Rajauddin is not the real owner of the huge consignment of drugs.
Speaking to media persons at the office of AMADA today, Rabindra said that the SIU team was asked by one Henry and some influential persons to let off all the drugs soon after the consignment was seized.
It appears that the Rajauddin is being made a scapegoat in order to conceal the real drug smuggler.
Both CADA and AMADA have already submitted separate memoranda to the State Government to find out the real drug smuggler(s) and punish them according to law.
SIU was set up in view of the failure of the Narcotic Cell to check drug smuggling in the State.
But the SIU which was fairly successful in hauling up several consignments of illegal drugs was suddenly disbanded after the seizure at airport.
All these circumstances pointed out that some very powerful and influential persons were involved in the drug cartel and they were not comfortable with the SIU, Rabindra said.
As the State Government has failed to give any response to the ultimatum submitted earlier, AMADA and CADA have decided to work together on the issue, he said.
AMADA president M Padmini also urged the Government to find out the real owner of the seized drugs.
