Imphal, March 01 2013:
For the first time in the history of Manipur, the State Government is ready to construct a rehabilitation centre for the surrendered UG cadres at Chothe village in Bishnupur district.
Since the State Government does not have any own rehabilitation camp or centre for the surrendered UG cadres, they are being made to put up in the camps of Assam Rifles.
The proposed rehabilitation camp at Chothe village is to be set up at the very site where the camp of 27 CRPF used to be located.
However, no budget has been arranged yet for the construction of the rehabilitation centre.
Deputy Chief Minister Gaikhangam, who also holds the portfolio of Home, went for an inspection visit of the site today.
He was accompanied by Minister of Commerce and Industries Govindas Konthoujam, DGP Y Joykumar; Principal Secretary (Home) Dr J Suresh Babu and other officials during the inspection.

Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of the inspection, Gaikhangam pointed out that accommodating the surrendered UGs who have laid down arms to the State Government for joining the mainstream in the Assam Rifles camps for a long time has created hassle and even experienced unpleasant incidents.
So, taking into account of this, the State Government has been searching for the suitable sites for construction of at least four rehabilitation centres for surrendered militants in the four valley districts of Imphal West, Imphal East, Bishnupur and Thoubal.
He informed that the spot at Chothe village has been selected for construction of the first rehabilitation centre after much discussion.
Around 20 acres of land would be requiring for the purpose.
The earlier structure of the CRPF camp would be properly mended at the earliest and other necessary infrastructure would be developed after consultation with the CM .
