State remembers exiled heroes of 1891

Imphal, August 14 2023:
The Department of Art & Culture felicitated the exiled heroes of Anglo Manipur War 1891 and their families as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav during a function held at Shri Shri Bal Mukunda Dev Music College, Palace Compound, here, today.
As a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav, the Department felicitated 23 heroes and their families who were exiled to Andaman & Nicobar Islands after the 1891 Anglo Manipur War.
Shawls and mementos were presented to the family members of the exiled heroes.

Speaking at the event as functional president, Commissioner of Art & Culture M Joy Singh, IAS said that the people of Manipur get a sense of patriotism by paying tribute to these exiled heroes.
Saying that no one can challenge and destroy the integrity of Manipur passed down by 'our ancestors' if the people stand united, Joy appealed to every Manipuri to work together to safeguard the State irrespective of caste, religion & creed.
Those unsung heroes who took part in the Anglo Manipur War remind us of their supreme sacrifice made for the State, he added.
Later, the Commissioner administered a pledge as a part of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav.
Naoroibam Indramani, president of the Historical & Cultural Research Centre was the chief guest of the function.
