Imphal, February 01, 2011:
The All Manipur Students' Guardians Organisation today drew the attention of the government towards finding a way to end the strike of the teachers considering for the students who are appearing in this year's HSLC and HSSLC exams.
Addressing a press conference held at its office at Palace Compound, AMSGO working president N Chaoba said that COTA's fast-unto-death stir has entered 14 days and many a teachers were arrested.
The association considered the demands of the teachers rightful.
Teachers have been rising up their voice when government failed to implement agreed demands for a long time.
It would be a right step for the government to translate into work the agreement before thing goes worsen.
Government should not forget that teachers are the makers of future pillars.
They are the guides of students who are the pillar of the society.
Depriving teachers will hit the students directly.
Instead of trying to suppress rights of the teachers, government should think twice and address the demands of the teachers at the earliest, Chaoba urged.
On the other hand since the commencement of the fast-unto-death stir, police have arrested 97 teachers.
Teachers under the aegis of Council of Teachers' Association (COTA) are demanding adoption of Sixth Pay Commission in toto which the government is yet to implement even though it had agreed nine months back to do so, and employees of other departments have begun to enjoy its benefits.
They lamented that employees of other departments of the state government have already begun to enjoy the revised sixth pay bands recommended by the Sixth Pay Commission.
However, teachers under the education department have been left behind.
In such situation they feel that this policy of the government will not help in brining any quality education in the state.
COTA's convenor S Gunamani asked how quality education can be brought about when teachers are looked down.
