Increasing Covid-19 cases : RIMS Superintendent fears bed shortage

Admission of at least 10 Covid-19 positive patients per day during the last couple of days has created a sense of fear if the beds designated for Covid patients will run out at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences.
Dr H Priyoshakhi Devi, Medical Superintendent, RIMS, said this today during an edible items and gifts distribution programme held at RIMS as a part of 53rd birthday of Keke Wahengbam, a cancer survivor, organised by Patriotic Writers Forum (PAWF) .
The Medical Superintendent added that the State is closely monitoring the increasing trend of positive cases and is also in constant touch with the Ministry regarding steps to be taken up in the light of the 'second wave' of the pandemic.

Health workers and officials in RIMS are also taking all precautionary measures in dealing with Covid-19 positive patients to contain the virus.
She also added that health workers alone cannot solve the Covid crisis but the public has an equal and even larger role to play in this.
Dr H Priyoshakhi Devi also extended gratitude to PAWF for extending cooperation to the healthcare sector and providing gifts and edibles to Cancer patients currently receiving treatment at RIMS to motivate and lighten their mood.
The Department of Radiation Oncology, RIMS is the first in the North East India to offer PG courses, she added.
Keke Wahengbam said he was diagnosed with Cancer in 2014 and became Cancer free by 2016 .
The gifts he was distributing today to Cancer patients was from the money he had collected by selling his book titled 'Ei Amadi Cancer'.
The programme was also attended by Naoroibam Khamba Luwang, president, PAWF; Dr T Dhaneshwar Sharma, HOD, Department of Radiation Oncology, RIMS; Dr Sudhiranjan Thingbaijam, Prof ENT, RIMS; Sobita Mongjam, vice president, PAWF; Dr Umabati Athokpam, ex-Joint Secretary and Sinam (O) Joybee Devi, Senior Physiotherapist as presidium members.
