Assam Rifles foils smuggling attempts

Imphal, April 27 2021:
Based on specific information regarding smuggling of poppy seeds in NH-02, Maram Battalion under the aegis of Jwalamukhi sector/IGAR E of Assam Rifles launched an operation in the general area between Hengbung and Senapati.
On suspicion of transportation of contraband items, checking of the suspected vehicle was carried out resulting in the recovery of 1500 kgs of poppy seeds.
Two individuals Lungolhao & Kamminlal Lalboi were also apprehended along with a truck which were handed over to Senapati Police for further investigation.
In a similar incidents, Chandel and Tengnoupal Battalions of 26 Sector Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (South) foiled smuggling of illegal goods in Chandel and Tengnoupal districts yesterday.
Troops of Chandel Battalion intercepted five vehicles and seven individuals near Angbreshu and New Songyang, Chandel district.
On thorough checking, illegally smuggled goods worth Rs.1.36 crore were recovered.
The troops df Tengnoupal Battalion also intercepted two individuals in the jungle near Tengnoupal who immediately escaped from the site.
On thorough checking of the area, imported cigarettes, textiles and footwear worth Rs 3.26 crore were also recovered.
Recovered items alongwith apprehended individuals and vehicles have been handed over to Chandel Police Station, Forest and Customs Departments respectively.
