Leishiyo eyes getting all adults of Kamjong vaccinated by mid Aug

Imphal, July 25 2021: Phungyar Constituency MLA K Leishiyo has categorically stated that the entire adult population of Kamjong district might be vaccinated by the mid-week of August.

He made the statement while visiting Sahamphung sub-division in Kamjong district to sensitise the locals on the benefits of getting vaccinated against COVID-19 on Saturday.

The MLA was accompanied by Kamjong Deputy Commissioner Hungyo Worshang, doctors and nurses of district hospital and CSO leaders.

The MLA had also visited Chahong Khullen, Chahong Chingthak, Chahong Pharung Maku and certain other villages under the sub-division on Friday which reportedly have about 100 each eligible people for vaccination on average.

It is further reported that the MLA met about 130 locals of Chahong Khullen, Chahong Chingthak and Maku and encouraged them to get vaccinated.

However, only about 54 people went for vaccination.

Of these 54, only 4 are from Chahong Chingthak.

By the sideline of the visit, K Leishiyo stated that spreading rumour on the effectiveness of Covid vaccine and its consequences is injecting vaccine hesitancy among the masses.

The MLA, on the other hand, contended that the overall rate of Covid vaccination in Kamjong district is increasing with as many as 10,000 out of the total population of 50,000 vaccinated so far.

Covid vaccination drives are underway in other sub-divisions of the district too, he added.

Kamjong district has 4 sub-divisions.

Given the current pace of the vaccination drive, the entire adult population of Kamjong district might be vaccinated by the mid-week of August, the MLA added.
