Imphal, September 20 2011:
Imphal West commandos have been accused of assaulting a managing director of a private firm in the most brutal manner on the charge of being an RPF/PLA cadre.
Sanjenbam Robertker (29) s/o Thoibi of Uripok Tourangbam Leikai was picked up by Imphal West commandos from RIMS campus at around 5.30 pm of September 18 .
According to a press release issued by the Imphal West SSP yesterday, Robertker was also known by the names of Rahul or Naoba and that he was apprehended for being an RPF/PLA cadre.
Contradictory to the SSP's claim, Robertker's family maintained that Robertker was a managing director of Borni Sanj Incorporation, a private firm based in New Delhi.
He came to Imphal only in June this year and he had no connection with any UG group.
Due to unrestrained thrashing, Robertker has been undergoing treatment at Shija Hospital, unable to make any movement.
When a team of media persons visited Robertker at Shija Hospital, his elder sister Manorama said Robertker went to RIMS on September to meet his girl friend who was coming there to appear in a BSc Nursing exam.
"As my brother did not return till late evening, we made calls to his mobile number till late night, but the calls were never responded", Manorama said.
When the call was repeated the next morning, it was responded from Lamphel PS and the receiver informed that Robertker was handed over to them after being apprehended by commandos.
But none of the family members were allowed to meet Robertker while he was in police custody.
He was finally produced before the Court of CJM Imphal West in the afternoon of September 19."On seeing the injuries and the feeble physical condition of my brother, the Magistrate released him on bail", Manorama said.
Saying that neither any incriminating document was seized from Robertker nor was he apprehended when going together with any UG cadre, Manorama questioned as to how the police commandos made the allegation that her brother had links with RPF/PLA.
As narrated by her brother, Manorama said that the commando team was travelling in a white Rakshak jeep.
As soon as Robertker was put inside the jeep, his hands were tied.
The commandos asked Robertker to remove his gold chain.
Though Robertker was apprehended at little later than noon, he was brought to RIMS for medical check-up at about 6 pm.
She also expressed strong suspicion if some persons were using the police commandos for some personal enmity.
Robertker is still unable to speak, and a number of bruises were seen on different parts of his body.
