Imphal, January 05 2015:
The 43-Sapam Papan Loukon Kanba Lup, Tekcham Khongjom has pledged to resist any attempt of the Govt to acquire agriculture land of 43 Papan Loukon or Thumkhong Loukon for resettlement of villagers affected by the Sports University at Yaithibi Loukon.
Addressing reporters today at Manipur Press Club, president of 43-Sapam Papan Loukon Kanba Lup, Meihoubam Dinokumar alleged that the Govt has been scheming to resettle around 30 households of Langthabal Khunou, which lies within a State khasland under Yaithibi Loukon, at Thumkhong Loukon.
Some workers of the local MLA have already taken the signature of around 8 farmers on stamped plain papers after promising them to buy the agriculture land for Rs 3 lakh per Sangam or a Govt job, he said.
When the farmers realised that they had committed a blunder by signing the papers, they tried to annul the agreement.
However, their attempts proved futile, Dinokumar said.
On learning the incident, the 43 Papan Thumkhong Loukon Kanba Lup lodged a complaint to the authority concerned, he added.
The Lup demanded that villagers of Langthabal Khunou be resettled at State khasland near the village in order to save fertile agriculture land of Thumkhong Loukon.
He said that the farmers are ready to starve to death rather than part with the agriculture land.
The Lup also warned of launching intense forms of agitation unless the move to acquire agriculture land for rehabilitation purpose is revoked.
