The United Committee Manipur (UCM) which is spearheading the anti NSCN (IM) ceasefire agitation today made a fervent appeal to immediately stop targeting residences of MPs, MLAs and DCs and destroying private properties, saying such actions will lead the democratic movement in the wrong direction.
The UCM said it will recognize persons indulging in such acts as working against the movement of the people and urged all to carry on the agitations democratically.
It said the civil disobedience movement initiated by it will continue till July 27.Urging both the State and Central Government employees not to attend office during the period, it asked the people to continue with the sit-in�protests.
Medical, School, College, University and media persons will be exempted from the ban, it added.
The committee expressed condolences for Ch Bhorot alias Bhagat who died during a cycle rally in Mekola area today.
It has made an appeal to the protestors not to add any communal hues to the movement and said perpetrators of communal violence will be taken as working against the movement.
The statement further hailed the people for the support they have given to the agitation.
Meanwhile, the Manipur international Youth Centre has appealed to stop destroying and burning residences of MLAs, saying disallowing them to stand elections will be a better option.
It has also warned against taking political mileage by unsuccessful candidates.
The MIYC said if such action continues, the ire of the people might turn to every person standing election under the Indian rule.
The destruction of the MLAs� properties will not benefit anybody.
It said adding that many innocent persons are also staying in their homes.
The statement further urged both the ceasefire protestors and the security forces not to attack ambulance, pressmen and press offices.
It also appealed to all organizations and clubs which are planning dharnas and rallies to consult the UCM beforehand and follow its directives.
Stating that the MLAs and MPs from Manipur are taking part in the movement and putting pressure on the Center to get the ceasefire withdrawn from Manipur the MPs and MLAs Forum, Manipur also appealed to all not to target the residence of MPs and MLAs.
Expressing the hope that the demand would be fulfilled the Forum said in a release that such activities have exposed differences among ourselves.
