Issuing a stern warning against doctors who neglect their duties and instead concentrate on private hospitals and clinics, Minister of State for Health (independent charge) Dr Chalton Lien Amo today said stringent actions will be initiated against recalcitrant doctors.
Citing numerous complaints against doctors not paying adequate attention to patients at Government hospitals in contrast to the treatment provided by the same doctors at privately run hospitals and clinics, the minister said the erring doctors will be listed and after reprimanding them action will be initiated if the rules are not adhered to.
If the doctors neglect their stipulated duties and think that they can earn more money from private practise then they will be asked to give up their jobs, Dr Amo said in an exclusive talk to this reporter on his return from New Delhi.
Under existing law of the land, actions can be taken against doctors not discharging their public duties satisfactorily, he added.
On the Japan Government funded hospital proposed at the Old District Hospital complex, the minister said lack of initiative from the Union of India is hindering the progress of the construction.
As soon as the Union Ministry of Finance approves the construction for the Rs 75 crores one hundred bedded hospital, Japan Government is willing to commence the same without any delay, he added.
During his recent visit to the national capital, Dr Amo met Union Health Minister Shatrughan Sinha and highlighted the delay by the Finance Ministry urging Sinha to intervene on the matter.
The Union Minister acknowledging Amo's worry and assured that the matter after referring to the Department of Economic Affairs, Government of India will be finalized within two days.
