Imphal, August 20:
The High Court Bar Association has appealed for lifting of the economic blockade on the national highway-39 and urged the State Government to take steps to ensure smooth flow of traffic on this route.
Making the appeals in a special general body meeting today the association also appealed to all organisations in both the hill and valley not to disturb the national highways in future.
The meeting was presided by the president of the association senior advocate Laishram Nandakumar.
Considering the letters of the Register General of the Gauhati High Court the bar demanded that judges should be made available at Imphal Bench irrespective of the prevailing situation in the State as two judges had already been earmarked for the Bench as indicated in the Presidential order dated January 17, 1992.The meeting discussed the situation arising out of the indefinite economic blockade which has affected all the people in the State and resolved to send a delegation of the bar to the governor to impress him the seriousness of the ongoing economic blockade and also the need to take immediate remedial measures to ensure a smooth passage of vehicles carrying essential commodities.
Noting that there is no situation in the valley to cause any fear the meeting appealed to all those who have left the valley in the wake of the mass agitation in Imphal to return back to their respective homes.
The meeting also appealed to all the lawyers to come back and resume their practice.
