Seizure of drugs from Imphal Airport CBI files charge-sheet

Imphal, April 19 2016:
The Central Bureau of Inves-tigation (CBI) submitted a charge-sheet against four accused in connection with the seizure of a consignment of illegal drugs which had ephedrine and pseudo-ephedrine contents from Imphal Airport on January 11, 2013 .
The drug consignment was seized by the Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) of Imphal West District Police which was disbanded shortly after the seizure.
Nonetheless, a case (RC 7{S}2013-SCB Kolkata) was taken up by CBI, Special Crime Branch, Kolkata on September 28, 2013 regarding the seizure.
The four accused listed in the case are Rajneesh Kumar, Ram Veer Tyagi, Henry Okram and Sapam Argus.
While the former two hail from Delhi, the latter are natives of Manipur.
The charge-sheet prepared by DSP CBI (SCB Kolkata) BB Chakrabraty was submitted before the Narcotic, Drugs and Psychotropic Substance (NDPS) Court, Lamphelpat yesterday.
The accused are charged under Sections 21, 25A, 29 and 32 of NDPS Act and under Sections 120B, 420, 468, 471 and 506 of IPC.
The drugs which comprised of Respifed, Robocoff and Seafied were brought to Imphal by air from Delhi via Kolkata in seven cartons and they were concealed by layers of Zarda packets.
Estimated cost of the drugs was said to be Rs 1.4 crore.
