Imphal, October 18 2020:
Chief Minister N Biren has claimed that O Lukhoi resigned from the Manipur Legislative Assembly out of necessity in the interest of the State and the Government.
Addressing an election rally held at Thongkhong Laxmi Bazar where O Lukhoi was also felicitated, Biren stated that Lukhoi gave up his membership of Manipur Legislative Assembly in order to bring peace in the State and save the BJP-led Government.
He appealed to the gathering not to let the ministerial post given to O Lukhoi go waste.
People of Wangoi AC ought to understand the rationale of BJP Central leaders behind allotting a Cabinet berth to Lukhoi even though he is no longer an MLA.
Biren appealed to the people of Wangoi AC to be grateful to the BJP Central leaders and show their gratitude by ensuring a landslide victory of O Lukhoi in the by-election.
As demanded by the then prevailing political situation, Lukhoi resigned from the State Assembly in the interest of the State and Government.
It was in recognition of his sacrificial spirit that BJP Central leaders readily allotted a Ministerial berth to Lukhoi, Biren said.
"We, the ruling parties, will safeguard the dignity of Manipur which was dearly safeguarded by our forefathers for over 2000 years", asserted the Chief Minister.
Asking if any Congress leader at the Centre paid heed to the sustained mass movement for protection of indigenous people when they were in power both in the State and the Centre, Biren hailed BJP Central leaders and their benevolent attitude towards the region for extending ILPS in Manipur.
Questioning who was responsible for the large number of people killed in fake encounters during the 15 years of Congress rule in the State, Biren went on to ask as to why the Congress Government did not do anything to restore peace and harmony among different communities of the State.
Reminding about the State's law and order situation before the incumbent BJP-led coalition Government was installed, Biren asked the gathering if their conscience would agree to voting for Congress party.
Even if the NPP candidate is elected, he would not get any Ministerial post.
He would remain only an MLA without much power, asserted Biren.
Under such circumstances, what would the NPP MLA do, assuming that the NPP candidate is elected, Biren asked.
If Wangoi AC must be developed, if Manipur must be developed, capable and selfless leaders are the need of the hour, Biren added.
