HERICOUN celebrates 12th Foundation Day

The 12th Foundation Day of Ethno Heritage Council (HERICOUN) was celebrated today at GM Hall with Prof Ch Ibohal, MIMS, Manipur University; M Churamani Meetei, president of HERICOUN and N Rajeev Kumar, principal of College of Teachers' Education, Wangjing attending as Chief Guest, President and Guest of Honour respectively.
Addressing the gathering, Ch Ibohal stated that Manipur being a small State is inhabited by different communities since time immemorial but with the State coming closer with Southeast Asian countries following globalization, there could emerge a potential threat to the existence of small ethnic tribes inhabiting in different parts of the State.
He stressed on the need for developing work culture and adherence to discipline to ones' line of skill amongst the people of the State to cope with such threat.
Maintaining that mother language must be used widely to strengthen the identity of the State, he noted that younger generation should be well apprised about patriotism, rich tradition and culture of the State.
M Churamani pointed out that the State is lacking behind in all aspects as compared to others due to decreasing social values and called for concerted efforts from all sections to combat this.
He added that HERICOUN has been coming up with measures and programmes to uplift social and moral values in the society since its inception in 2002 .
Apart from presentation of cultural programmes, the 6th Khangminnasi Iramdam Quiz of HERICOUN was conducted to mark the occasion and prizes were distributed among the winners.
