Congress retains both LS seats in Manipur

The ruling Congress party won both Lok Sabha seats in the State with both the sitting MPs retaining their respective seat.
In the Outer Parliamentary constituency, sitting Congress MP Thangso Baite defeated his nearest rival Soso Lorho of the Naga People's Front (NPF) by a small margin of just 15,497 votes.
Thangso Baite secured the total votes of 2,96,618 while Soso Lorho got 2,81,121 votes.
In the Inner Parliamentary seat of Manipur sitting Lok Sabha MP and Congress candidate Thokchom Meinya got 2,92,102 votes while his nearest rival and CPI candidate (also common candidate of Left and Secular Alliance) Dr M Nara got 1,97,428 votes.
In the Outer seat 10 candidates contested the election while 8 candidates for the Inner seat.

Of the other candidates for Outer seat, All India Trinamool Congress candidate Kim Gangte secured 12,741 votes, BJP candidate Prof Gangmumei Kamei got 75,815 votes, NCP's C Doungel secured 61,655 votes, Aam Aadmi Party candidate K Zou got 4328 votes and JD-U candidate Lien Gangte managed to garner 1085 votes.
Of the three Independent candidates in the fray, Amarson got only 401 votes, Mani Charenamei secured 34,995 votes while a Lal Momoi received 603 votes. For the remaining candidates in fray for the Inner seat, BJP candidate RK Ranjan secured 92,443 votes, All India Trinamool Congress candidate Manaobi got 39,903 votes, AAP candidate Dr Ibomcha got 3275 votes, Jai Mahabharat Party candidate Oinam Jotin secured 1403 votes, Manipur Democratic Peoples Front candidate Dr Tonsana Sharma got 2005 votes and Independent candidate Oinam Indira secured the total votes of 7014 votes.

There are 5298 NOTA in the Inner seat while in the Outer seat there 2206 NOTA.
Meanwhile, in respect of 41-Chandel AC and 42-Tengnoupal A/C of Chandel district, the counting of votes for the election to the Outer Manipur Parliamentary Constituency was held under tight security arrangements at the office of the Deputy Commissioner, Chandel.
In the final tally in both the A/Cs, NPF candidate Soso Lorho got 38,795 votes and INC candidate Thangso Baite trailed behind at 24423.NCP candidate C Doungel came in the third with 7459 votes and BJP candidate Prof Gangmumei in the fourth place with 4404 votes.
In 41-Chandel A/C, Soso Lorho of NPF garnered 18205 votes, Thangso Baite (INC) got 8718 while NCP and BJP candidates received 6424 and 2947 votes respectively.
In 42-Tengnoupal A/C, NPF received 20590 votes, INC got 15705, BJP 1457 and NCP 1035 votes.
