NWU demands punishment

Alleging the parents of a minor girl, who was reported to have been sexually molested last year, of abetting the minor victim to make false statement before a Court, the Naga Women Union has demanded penalty to the parents under Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSOs) Act for making false information.
According to a statement issued by the President of NWU, LM Tabitha, the minor girl's parents have lodged a complain with Tamenglong PS stating their minor child was sexually molested by one L Iboyaima Singh on Sept 13, 2013.As per the complain, a charge-sheet was framed against the accused.
The parents along with a witness gave their statement before a Court on Sept 18, 2013 .
However, the minor was forced by the parents to make false statement before the Session Court, Manipur West on April 30 .
The NWU, in its probe on the matter, learnt that a deal was struck between the victim and accused parties with the intermediation of some organisations on Feb 27 this year wherein the accused was made to pay Rs 1,50,000 and a pig as fine, the press statement said.
The NWU strongly demanded penalty against the alleged victim's parents for reporting false information under the POCSO Act while adding that any person, who makes false complaint or provides false information against any person, in respect of an offence committed under sections 3, 5, 7 and section 9 is punishable with imprisonment for a term which may extend to six months or with fine or with both.
