Imphal, February 03:
Following reports of outbreak of suspected cold diarrhoea at Tinshong village a medical team from Senapati district headquarters has been rushed to the area to assess the situation.
Sources informed The Sangai Express that Tinshong village authorities yesterday lodged a complaint to the Chief Medical Officer, Senapati Dr bhubonchandra of the outbreak of the disease which has claimed the lives of at least three children.
The symptoms include vomiting frequently before succumbing to the disease, said the complaint adding that it could be cold diarrhoea and urged the CMO to depute a medical team without delay to combat the spread of the disease before it assumes epidemic proportion.
Tinshong village is located about 40 kilometres east of the district headquarters along the Barak river banks.
When contacted Dr Bhubonchandra informed that based on the complaint a three member medical team led by Dr Binoy Prasad Sahu has been sent to the said village today.
Besides investigating the reported outbreak of the disease the team will also treat infected villagers, said the CMO.
Further course of action will be taken after receiving the first hand report from the team, he asserted and added that it would be too hasty to conclude that the disease is cold diarrhoea merely on the basis of the complaints lodged by the villagers.
Moreover there is no report that a large number of people has been infected, he observed.
