In yet another tear-jerking health account from apoverty-stricken family in border town of Moreh, a mother expressed her wish to mortgage everything she has if her child could be cured from deformity on the left foot, as she could not bear seeing him suffer the same condition as she is suffering from.
Paogunsei Vaiphei (fondly called Naosen), one of the triplets born to parents Lhunkhothang Vaiphei (52) and Veikhotin Vaiphei (44) from Phaicham Veng Ward No 3, in Moreh town suffered deformity on his left foot since birth.
However, the other two children, Lamjemhoi Vaiphei and Paogunsei Vaiphei were born absolutely normal.
The wife of an auto driver in Moreh town, Veikhotin Vaiphei delivered her triplet (two male and one female) at Tamu hospital in Myanmar by Caesarean section on August 4, 2015 where the youngest of the triplet Paogunsei was born with deformity which rendered him unable to walk normally like others.
Apart from the triplet, the couple has three more daughters namely, Lhingneivah, Lheineihat and Thiengnunmoi who earlier studied in Don Bosco School, now, Bethel High School Moreh.
Considering the condition of the family, the school Principal, out of love, provided assistance to support the eldest daughter while the other two had to drop from the school.
With financial help from Lhukhosei Zou, Chairman ADC Chandel and his Councillor Chinneivah Haokip and Jangngam Baite, apart from other individuals, the parents took the child to PHC Moreh, the nearest health centre where they met Dr Bidya Laxmi, MO, PHC Moreh, who helped them reach RIMS hospital, Imphal on July 12, 2017 for further treatment of their child.
Since then, Proprietor of Luna Traders, Moreh, Paojagin Singson started financing the family for the child's treatment as a missionary service while Dr Bidya Laxmi helped them technically as and when required.
The child was checked at RIMS hospital on July 12 and the operation for his foot was fixed on July 27.However, the operation was cancelled by the doctors when high Alkaline Phosphates, RCDW, WBC, Eosinophil, Protein and Globulin were detected in the child and due to low Haemoglobin, Haematocrit, Mean Corpuscular, HGB and Lymphocytes which led forced them to hold further treatment, according to the child's medical report.
The heartbroken parents had to return to their rented home at Phaicham veng in Moreh only with the prescribed medicines.
The mother lamented that she could not bear to see her son experience the same feeling she had experienced when growing up.
She added that even she could not avail the required treatment owing to poverty.
When Naosen try to put on school shoes, the shoes could not fit, narrated the mother.
A ray of hope finally appeared once again upon the family when Dr Bidya Laxmi informed the parents that the child's operation can be performed free of cost at JNIMS Hospital, Imphal if everything is found normal after necessary investigation, on April 25 .
The poor parents were delighted when the initiative of Chief Ministergi Hakshelgi Tengbang and a special scheme for the drop out children were recently passed.
However, they expressed their anxiety since they have no money even for transportation and other needs while conveying their shame to seek assistance from others including the Proprietor, Luna Traders, Moreh even if help was assured.
The parents appealed the State Government to help their child walk normally and bestow them with schemes and projects which they can avail readily.
