Imphal, January 20 2017:
While stating that the people's misery has only multiplied under the Congress rule of over 15 years, BJP Manipur Pradesh spokesman and former Minister Dr Nimaichand Luwang remarked that it would be better if President's Rule is imposed in Manipur in place of the Congress Government which has failed miserably to maintain law and order.
A booth level meeting of five polling stations located between Tumukhong and Nongbrang was held today at Itham under the aegis of BJP Andro Mandal.
The meeting was attended by villagers and leaders of Nongbrang, Itham, Moirangpurel, Laikhong and Keithelmanbi.
Speaking at the gathering, BJP candidate for Andro AC Dr Nimaichand Luwang said that the indefinite economic blockade being imposed on National Highways which connect Manipur with the rest of the country is a result of Chief Minister O Ibobi's misgovernance.
Rather than working to get the economic blockade lifted, the Congress Government has been blaming the Central Government and this is unacceptable, Nimaichand said.
Even though Congress party has been in power for the past 15 years, good governance still eludes the people of Manipur.
If one went by the mode of (mis)govemance seen in the State, President's Rule is long overdue.
If the efforts to hold talks with the United Naga Council (UNC) over the protracted issue of economic blockade prove unsuccessful, Manipur should be brought under President's Rule even though the election model code of conduct has already come into force.
Dr Nimaichand said.
It has been learnt that all the State Government employees who were recruited recently just before the election code of conduct came into force would be paid their monthly salaries only from April this year.
However, in case BJP comes to power in the State, all these fresh recruitment and all the policies of the Congress Government would be reviewed, he continued.
Even though the voters of Itham and Moirangpurel could not exercise their right to vote freely in the previous elections on account of several criminal activities, all the people need to stand united this time and fight back the criminal elements so that they can vote for the candidates of their own choice.
Nimaichand went on to claim that he would out-score his nearest rival by 5000 to 7000 votes provided people support him.
In the eyes of the ECI, Andro AC is one of the violence prone Assembly segments.
That is why, more than 10 polling stations have been categorised as critical.
Due preparations have also been completed to fit video cameras at these polling stations.
As such, poll rigging and proxy voting through violent means would be effectively curbed this time.
There would be a BJP Govrnement and Congress party' will never return to power in the State after the forthcoming election.
Dr Nimaichand asserted.
Andro Upliftment Committee president Md Fakaruddin said that Andro AC is going in reverse gear in terms of development for the last 10 years because a wrong man was elected as the people's representative.
BJP State executive member Y Shantalal too spoke at the booth level meeting.
