Imphal, January 20 2017:
With the primary objective of urging the Government to get the indefinite economic blockade lifted, the Protection and Preservation Committee Manipur (PPCM) has resolved to stage a protest demonstration all over Khwairamband Keithel.
Speaking to media persons at their Wahengbam Leikai office today, PPCM convenor Ph Deban Sharma decried that neither the Congress Government of the State nor the Centre's BJP Government is sincere to resolve the protracted issue of UNC's indefinite economic blockade.
Rather, the two Governments have been shirking responsibilities and blaming each other.
On the other hand, the adverse impacts of the indefinite blockade have been multiplying each passing day.
In the meantime, there have been reports of fatal violence and destruction of properties which have only aggravated communal tension, Deban said.
Notably, PPCM comprises of 27 different civil society organisations.
Given this grave scenario, the Governments should ensure that the economic blockade is lifted at the earliest.
The sit-in protest scheduled tomorrow is not directed against any community.
It is just one way of exerting pressure on the State Government and the Central Government, Dcban said.
He then appealed to all the people irrespective of religious faiths and ethnicity to join the protest demonstration which would use only two slogans "Get the blockade lifted immediately " and "Lets oppose blockade-induced conflicts".
He further appealed to all the people to stage similar protest demonstrations at other market places too.
