Surveillance teams for polls formed

Income Tax Department, North East Region has started monitoring influence of money in connection with the ensuing 11 th State Legislative Assembly election by forming surveillance team in each of the district.
This was informed by Income Tax Nodal Officer Additional Director SHC Deepak during a press conference organised by Income Tax Department (Investigation ) North East Region at Classic Grande hotel here today.
He said that as per the instruction of Election Commission of India (ECI), around 65 officials of Income Tax have been deployed in each of the district and if needed the number of officials would be increased.
He reiterated that if anyone carries Rs 50,000 in cash during the election then he should give proof of its usage otherwise Income Tax Department will take up necessary action.
He maintained that the Department has taken up necessary steps to check luring voters by candidates through the means of money.
He requested the public to contact toll free numbers 18003453822, 8794007400, 8257865611 and 8257865622 to communicate any information pertaining to black money and movement of large amount of cash valuables etc during the election period which are likely to be used for bribing electors.
The Income Tax officer also appealed to the civil society organisations to extend cooperation to the Department to ensure that the election is held in a free and fair manner.
Several Income Tax officials of different districts also attended the press conference.
