2nd All Manipur Folk Drama Festival kicks off

Imphal, March 15 2012:
The 2nd All Manipur Folk Drama Festival being organised by Manipur Dramatic Union (MDU) under the sponsorship of the Ministry of Culture, GoI, kicked off at MDU hall today.
The inaugural function of the festival, which is organised in commemoration of 82nd Foundation Day celebration of MDU, was graced by Dr K Sobita, Director, Art and Culture, Government of Manipur and Ksh Ibohal, President of MDU as Chief Guest and President respectively.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr K Sobita observed that performing arts which strive on folk elements are the best art forms which have withstood the test of time.
Such performing arts give more knowledge to the people which could not be touched by literature alone.
Ksh Ibohal, delivering the Presidential speech, emphasized on the importance of artistes in understanding the minds of the Directors in trying to bring out quality folk play.
Various awards were also distributed to the artists and Directors on the occasion.
The S Chaoba Award for distinguished Director was conferred to Dr A Kholchandra, the Gambhini Award for distinguished Actor/Theatre Worker was conferred to Birjit Ngangomba, the Chaobi Award for distinguished Actress was conferred to Longjam Lalitabi and the Jeevankumar Award for distinguished Artist was conferred to Chingakham Kumar.
To mark the occasion, a souvenir was also released by the Chief Guest and the Functional President.
