'Teachers' irresponsibility makes CCE ridiculous'

Imphal, August 07, 2011: The insincere and irresponsible act of the teachers has made the newly introduced Continuous and Comprehensive Education (CCE) system in the HSLC Examinations ridiculous, said Deputy Secretary (Academic) Board of Secondary Education Manipur (BSEM) S Mangi today.

Mangi was speaking in the felicitation function for successful candidates of Pourabi held at the Lamjing Meira Sindamsang.

Mangi said that teachers do not submit in time the 20 marks reserved for internal assessment which was to act as a qualifying mark for appearing in the HSLC Examinations.

As per the guidelines of the CCE, no student, who failed in the internal assessment, was to be allowed to appear in the HSLC Examination.

The Board can not alter the marks submitted by the schools.

If a student got 20 marks in the internal assessment, the student was ensured to pass the examination in first and second division.

However many students who secured 20 marks out of 20 failed to pass the examination.

It clearly shows that teachers submitted marks without actually assessing the academic activities of the students.

BSEM actually planned to reserve 40 marks for CCE system like that of CBSE.

After much discussion, the mark was decreased to 20 on a trial basis.

BSEM has included lessons of speaking and listening in language learning syllabus.

The board has sponsored 10 teachers of private schools to receive training in English Language learning in the Regional British Council in Kolkata.

Unfortunately teachers of government schools are shy of participating in the training programme.

Out of 23 students of the school who appeared in the HSLC Examinations 2011 17 students passed in 1st Division while the remaining six passed in 2nd Division.

All the students were inspired with awards in the function.
