World Disabled Day observed at Senapati and Kpi

Senapati/Kpi, December 04 2018:
The Senapati District Disabled People's Association, Manipur (SDPAM) together with Manipur North Economic Development Association, Manipur (MANEDA) and District Social Welfare Office, Senapati has observed the "World Disabled Day" at Mini Stadium, Senapati under the theme, "Empowering persons with disabilities and ensuring inclusiveness and equality" .
The programme was graced by Kh Lalmani (MCS) ADM, Senapati as Chief Guest, JK Makabo, District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Senapati as Guest of Honour and T Peter Rangnamei, Director, MANEDA as functional President.
Hingba Augustine, President, SDPAM, in his welcome and keynote address, said that people with disabilities are not heroes and are not victims while adding that they are the agents of their own destiny, seeking an equal place in the community.
T Peter Rangnamei, Director, MANEDA in his speech spoke about the chronicle of the observation of the day way back in 2003 when MANEDA organized the first of its kind.
JK Makabo, District Social Welfare Officer (DSWO), Senapati while bringing warm greetings to all people with disabilities, spoke on the various schemes and benefits initiated for people with disabilities under CMST.
Speaking as the chief guest, Kh Lalmani (MCS) ADM, Senapati drew the attention of the SDO, HOD, DSWO, etc to find out the accurate number of disabled people of the region to promote and assist them in time of need.
Kangpokpi: Kangpokpi also joined the State in observing International Day for Persons with Disabilities yesterday under the aegis of District Social Welfare Office, Kangpokpi at ZEO Conference Hall, Kangpokpi DHQs.
The International Day for Persons with Disabilities at Kangpokpi was organized under the theme "Empowering Persons with Disabilities and Ensuring Inclusiveness and Equality" which was attended by ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing as Chief Guest.
Joel G Haokip, MCS, Addl Deputy Commissioner, Kangpokpi and Mangkholun Khongsai, Advisor, All Disabled Union Sadar Hills attended the observance function as functional President and Guest of Honour respectively apart from N Usharani Devi, DSWO, Kangpokpi, staff and employees of DSWO, Kpi and executives of ADUSH.
A touching presentation of special songs, dance and musical display by persons with disabilities were some the highlights of the programme apart from distribution of aids and appliances to the PWDs by the dignitaries.
Speaking on the occasion, ADC Sadar Hills Chairman, Haokholal Hangshing appreciated the contribution of District Social Welfare Office towards the children with special needs while stating that the Social Welfare Department is committed to provide scholarships, pension and public transport facilities to the specially-abled persons.
He also said that International Day of Persons with Disabilities is observed with the aim to promote the rights and well-being of persons with disabilities in all spheres of society and development, and to increase awareness of the situation of persons with disabilities in every aspect of political, social, economic and cultural life.
"The theme of this year International Day for PWDs focuses on empowering persons with disabilities for an inclusive, equitable and sustainable development as part of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development", said N Usharani Devi while adding that the 2030 Agenda pledges to "leave no one behind" .
The PWDs were also imparted the knowledge of EVMs and VVPAT during the programme.
