Palace takeover: SKSL meets CM

A delegation of Sana Konung Semgat Lup (SKSL) met Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh and discussed issue related to the proposal of the State Government to take over the Royal Palace for development into a historical monument.
According to information received by Hueiyen Lanpao, during the meeting which took place at his office chamber yesterday afternoon, Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh assured that SKSL delegation that the provisions of Manipur Ancient Historical Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act, 1976 would not be applicable to Sana Konung (Royal Palace) and whatever the Government takes up for the development of Sana Konung would be in accordance to the wishes and aspirations of the titular king as well as the people of the State.

Conveying the desire and plan of the State Government to take over Sana Konung in the interest of developing it in the most befitting manner, the Chief Minister also assured the 12-member SKSL delegation, which included its President Chingsubam Gopalmacha and Secretary Pukhrihongbam Araba that the activities of Sana Konung would not be affected in any way even after the take over.
On their part, the SKSL delegation made it clear to the Chief Minister that since the issue of taking over Sana Konung is a very sensitive one; nothing should be done without the consent of the people.
It may be noted here that the yesterday's meeting has come after the first round of meeting between the Sana Konung Semgat Lup and and the High Power Committee formed by the State Government in connection with taking over Sana Konung at the office chamber of Revenue Minister Th Devendra on August 30 last.
