Bank Day celebrated

State Bank of India (SBI) branches across the State have celebrated 63rd Bank Day on July 1 .
It was on July 1, 1955 that the Imperial Bank of India was reconstituted by an Act of Parliament to create State Bank of India to perform the functions of a commercial bank.
This marked the start of a new era in banking in the country .
As a part of the celebration, a cultural evening was organised at Manipur State Film Development Corporation Society auditorium on July 2 (Sunday), according to a statement .
K Radhakumar Singh, Commissioner (Works/IPR/CAF&PD) was the chief guest of the function while ND Meitei, AGM, Imphal Branch was the guest of honour.
Kamal Khanal, AGM, RBO, Imphal presided over the function .
A melange of cultural events and a one-act play titled ‘SBI Intouch Mahila Branch’ presented by staff and family members marked the occasion.
HSSLC 2017 Commerce stream topper and 4th position holder Thounaojam Loyangamba along with his mother Thounaojam Banamali were feted with a cash reward of Rs 10,000 and mementos.
Loitongbam Ibopishak Singh, aged around 100 years, oldest surviving SBI pensioner was also honoured on the occasion.
Also as a part of the celebration, a sports meet was held at Khuman Lampak sports complex on June 24.Events like football, musical chair, blind hit, penalty shootout etc were held and keenly participated by staff and family members, the statement added.
