Imphal, November 01 2009:
The women's wing of the RPF and the PLA have condoled the death of Ramchanphy Hongray, who died at the hand of Pushpam Kumar Sinha of Bihar at Munirka in New Delhi on October 24 after she was molested.
A statement issued by the chief, department of publicity of the RPF, GM Changjou noted that the incident was not the first time in metropolitan cities of India including Delhi while adding that the assertion that racial discrimination is rampant against the North East people in India.
It appealed all concerned to unite against the backdrop of such discrimination.
The people have needed to give a think on think on the perception of the North-east people by Indians, who even are intolerant to the Dalits - the people who are slightly different from the Indians.
Noting that most of the students from the north east - except few relatives and kin of Ministers, MLA, officers and rich people who afforded to stay in posh residences - have been struggling hard to maintain life in cities outside the region, the RPF statement added that few lucky students are able to secure seats in hostels.
Stating that many people of the NE region are staying in Delhi, the statement pointed out that the incidents of 'racial discrimination' against the people of the region are happening frequently.
It stated that when the Indians see the Japanese, they show respect.
When they see the Chinese the Indians mix with them with fear and respect.
The RPF statement urged all concerned to stand united so that people respect them like the Chinese or the Japanese.
