Imphal, March 15 2012:
An ice cream plant is all set to be installed inside the complex of Porompat Dairy Plant by the end of this month.
The required machines for installation have already arrived.
Speaking to this reporter, an official of the Veterinary Department, Government of Manipur pointed out that the Dairy Plant at Porompat was set up to increase the production of milk in the state through Public-Private Partnership (PPP) model.
The Dairy Plant has been equipped with Pasturing machines and is providing pasteurised milk to the general public.
The farmers, who are registered with the Dairy Plant are providing milk to the plant.
On the proposed ice cream plant inside the complex of the Dairy Plant at Porompat, the official informed that it would produce different varieties of ice creams.
With the establishment of the ice cream plant in the state, unnecessary amount of money being drained out from the state to big companies outside the state in procuring ice creams, which are in great demand in the state, would be able to stop, the official maintained.
The official further informed that the required machines for installation of the proposed ice cream plant have already arrived in the state and the would be installed by experts within this month so as to make the plant functional by the end of this month.
The official observed that since milk is the main item required for production of ice cream, there would be need for increasing milk production in the state.
The plant is targeting to produce quality ice cream which is good for human health.
The official also pointed out that since the state produces only 30 percent of the total requirement of milk, the gap in the demand is being met from the milk powder exported from outside the state.
Considering its nutritious value, there is high demand of milk not only in Manipur but throughout the world.
Milk has even been termed as a complete food by experts and as such there is the need to increase production of milk in the state, the official stressed.
