The Employees' Union of Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Department today staged a sit-in protest today at Department's office complex at Sangaiprou from 11 am to 3 pm .
The sit-in was staged to protest the recent threats and plantation of bomb at the office of the Department and the residences of its officials.
Speaking to media persons on the sideline of the protest, District Civil Supply Officer and the president of Employees' Union, SA Hallim expressed strong exception to the act of planting a grenade yesterday at the gate of residence of the Director of the Department, Yumnam Ranjan.
Causing uneasiness in the minds of the official, other family members and neighbourhoods with bomb threats is condemnable at the strongest term, he said.
He further said that such threat was a not new thing to them as there have been several incidents of plantation of bombs in and around office premises, residences of Stock Keepers of Civil Supply and other officials earlier.
No one has claimed responsibility for the threats or specified any reason behind the acts or issued any prior warnings, he continued while questioning who will be responsible in the event the bombs explode and cause casualties.
With fear and tension gripping their minds, the officials are unable to discharge their duties freely, he said while asserting that employees of the union may opt cease work if such threats continue.
The employees have been working more since the emergence of COVID-19 crisis in March and if such threats and disturbances persist, supply office and other commodities may be seriously affected, he continued.
