Councillor among five arrested with bombs

Imphal, February 10, 2012:
Imphal West police under the supervision of Modhunimai, SDPO, Imphal West arrested five activists of CorCom (Coordination Committee of seven militant outfits) involved in hurling bombs at the residences of Congress candidates along with two hand grenades during the last 24 hours.
Among the arrested five CorCom activists included an elected Nagar Panchayat Councillor.
Addressing media persons at the Imphal Police Headquaters today, SDPO Modhunimai said that all the arrested five are members of the proscribed PREPAK, which is a constituent member of CorCorm.
The arrested five activists identified as Sairem Sanatomba (42) s/o Khelen of Karam Makha Leikai; Paonam Santa@ Lukhoi (40) s/o Gandhar, also from Karam Makha Leikai; Maibam Michael @ Lemba (37) s/o Kala of Lilong Chajng Chingkhong Leikai; Chongtham Bobicha (40) s/o (L) Manglem of Singjamei Ngakrabam Leirak and Koijam Jiten (44) s/o (L) Koireng of Kiyamgei Mayai Leikai, were also paraded before the media.
Sanatomba is said to be the Councillor of Lilong Chajing Nagar Panchayat Ward No.6 while Santa is an elected member of the same ward.
Modhunimai further said that Sanatomba, the Councillor is believed to have been involved in a series of activities.
He was picked up from Moirangkhom yesterday just after midday following a special tip off by a team of Imphal West Police.
In the follow up action, the police team arrested another PREPAK member, identified as Santa based on the provided by Sanatomba on the same day and two bombs were recovered from their possession, the police officer said, adding that during the recent electioneering period, Sanatomba was instructed by Santa to collect five bombs from a PREPAK cadre.
On the other hand, Chongtham Bobicha, who is working under Sanatomba, is the PREPAK activist involved in issuing monetary demand to IFCD Minister N.Biren, the police official added.
