Extempore speech competition / awareness programme held

The Nasha Mukt Bharat Campaign, Thoubal and district Social Welfare Office, Thoubal in association with Lilong Haoreibi College Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), NSS, NCC and Youth Red Cross (YRC) units, organized an "Extempore Speech Competition, Awareness and Educational Programme on Prevention of Substance Abuse and Alcoholism" atthe Multipurpose Hall, Lilong Haoreibi College, Lilong, today.
The programme was attended by Adhyaksha Thoubal Zila Parishad, Hasina Begum; Lilong Haoreibi College Principal, Dr Raheijuddin Sheikh; former Principal, Lilong Haoreibi College, Dr K Kunjani Devi; Thoubal District Social Welfare Officer, A Kameshwar Singh; NMBCC Thoubal member, Yumnam Lakshman Singh and Thoubal District Red Cross Society Secretary, K Sadananda Singh, as presidium members.
Addressing the programme, K Sadananda Singh highlighted the activities carried out by the Indian Red Cross Society, Thoubal in association with NMBC to prevent drug abuse in the district.
Hasina Begum while acknowledging the efforts of NMBCC Thoubal, appealed to all the participants to spread the message of No to Drugs.
Y Lakshman Singh highlighted the basic purpose and objectives of the NMBCC, Thoubal.
The primary aim is prevention of drugs and alcohol abuse among the adolescent youth and students who are vulnerable to the problem of drug abuse.
Dr K Kunjani Devi stated that the society is afflicted with drug addiction and substance abuse mainly because the family and localities try to hide the drug addicts instead of rehabilitating them.
In order to make a drug free society, the role and responsibility of family, locality, teachers and friends are vital.
She appealed that the declaration of drug free college should be followed and abided by all the students, teachers and non-teaching staff of the college.
A Kameshwar Singh mentioned the role of police, media and students in the prevention of drug abuse and illicit trafficking of drugs.
He further briefed about the activities and role of IRCAs in making the NMBC a success.
Dr Md Raheijuddin Sheikh expressed his appreciation to all the students participating in the extempore speech competition and the NMBCC, Thoubal and DSWO, Thoubal for organising the programme.
The extempore speech competition was participated by 12 students.
The programme concluded with the declaration of "Drug Free College" by the Principal of the College.
