Imphal, July 03 2018:
Some of the sinking zones between Koubru Leikha and Mao along Imphal-Dimapur road, which is the one of the two lifelines of the State, will be selected for Geo Composite Synthetic Layering.
An official source from Public Works Department (PWD) explained that as per the estimation by BIPL which is taking up construction works along the National Highway in two portions (Mao to Senapati and Senapati to Koubru Leikha), there are only 9 sinking zones.
But due to the bad road conditions, sinking of road portions and landslide affected areas present on the road; at least 25 sinking zones have been identified.
In order to bring a permanent solution to the problems posed by the said25 sinking zones, BIPL has been tasked with consulting the necessary experts and to submit an estimate to the Department at the earliest.
The estimate submitted by BIPL will be used to create a proposal which will then be sent to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways to seek necessary funds.
In the meantime, BIPL has also been tasked with selecting some sinking zones and implementing Geo Composite Synthetic Layer in the road construction work at the earliest, the source added.
It may be mentioned that the unfavourable road condition of National Highway 2, Imphal-Dimapur road, there is a temporary ban on carrying more than 25 tonnes (including the weight of the vehicle) along the road.
