Give proof to arrest Henry, Tarpon: CM to CSO leaders

Chief Minister O Ibobi Singh has reportedly assured a group of leaders of 15 civil society organizations (CSOs) today that rewards would be given to anyone who could provide evidences on the owners of the drug consignments seized from Tulihal Airport on January 11 last.
The assurance was given to leaders of AMKIL, Nupi Samaj, Tammi- Chingmi, Macha Leimai, EECHAL, TDU-WDO, ANUL, AMMDWO, CADA, UPF, NIPCO, AMSU, Mapi Council, UPACO and KNKSSL, who called on him today afternoon to express concern over rising cases of drug smugglings in the State.
Speaking to media persons after their meeting with the Chief Minister, President of UPF BM Yaima Shah informed that apart from submitting an eight-point charter of demands, the CSO leaders asked the Chief Minister as to why the Special Intelligence Unit (SIU) was abolished and Inspector Ranjit who led a SIU team in the seizure of huge quantity of drugs from Imphal airport on January 11 was transferred.
The CSO leaders also demanded to know whether 'Henry' and 'Tarpon' whose names are doing the round in some sections of the media as the owners of the drugs seized have been arrested.
In reply, BM Yaima Shaha recalled, the Chief Minister said that he has no knowledge about the persons called Henry or Tarpon in connection with the airport drug haul and asked the CSO leaders to provide proof so as to effect the arrest of the drug owners.
The Chief Minister also assured that he would given reward to anyone who can if provide evidences and leads in connection with the airport drug seizure.
The UPF President further recalled that in connection with the transfer of Inspector Ranjit and abolition of the unit, SP of Imphal West K Jayenta, who was also present during the meeting, asserted that SIU was only a subsidiary unit which was formed to assist the works of police in drug related activities and the transfer of the Inspector was made much before the Airport incident.
Not satisfied with the explanation of the SP, the CSO leaders returned after making it clear that they would resort to stern agitation so as to free Manipur from drug menace.
