Senapati, July 24 2018:
The United Naga Council (UNC) has apprised Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister, Ministry of External Affairs (MEA), through a memorandum that Indo-Myanmar international boundary pillars should be "re-surveyed and settled historically" .
In the memorandum, the UNC mentioned that "a nation, big or small has its own geo-political area and its boundary".
Likewise, the UNC said, the Nagas have been sharing immediate traditional boundaries with all neighbouring communities since time immemorial.
"We know which is our first village and which is the last village," it added.
Thus, the UNC asserted that the Naga people cannot accept all the previous agreements and all the existing international border pillars of "our areas erected between India and Myanmar under any circumstances because they were erected without the knowledge and consent of the Naga tribal people who have been sharing immediate traditional boundaries with Myanmarese nationality".
In this way, the UNC added that many of "our people have been forced to become Myamarese citizens unwillingly" .
The UNC then demanded that the wrongs done to "our people must be corrected accordingly" .
The UNC memorandum further demanded that all the existing international border pillars of India and Myanmar should be reviewed and re-surveyed physically with the people of the area and "not alone by the people from afar Delhi and Yangon" .
