Imphal, July 24 2018:
Education Minister Th Radheshyam has appealed to all concerned to help declare results of the 6th semester undergraduate examination results and resume normal classes at all colleges.
Speaking to media persons at his Secretariat office this evening, Radheshyam noted that the Manipur University impasse has severely vitiated academic atmosphere of not only the university but also all the colleges affiliated to it.
There are around 90 colleges under MU and around 82,000 students are studying in these colleges, he said.
If 20,000 students out of all the students who had given 6th semester examinations are assumed to have cleared the examinations, a vast majority of them would have to go outside the State for PG courses as the intake capacity of MU is just 1500, he said.
Admission process for PG courses and other higher courses would start next month.
In case the 6th semester examinations results are not declared, students will have very limited option and if there is a backlog of one year, authorities responsible for higher education will face steep challenges next year, continued the Education Minister.
He then appealed to MUSU, MUTA, college teachers and all students' organisations to let the authority concerned initiate due process for declaration of the pending 6th semester examination results.
MUSU, MUTA and MUSA have been on strike since several days back demanding dismissal of VC Prof AP Pandey.
