Three labourers engaged in construction of a bridge along National Highway 150 were reportedly beaten up brutally by some unidentified armed persons.
The incident took place even as the State Govt has been making efforts to ensure transportation of goods and passengers along this National Highway.
The three labourers who were reportedly beaten up brutally at Lanva village under New Lamka at around 4.30 pm have been identified as Mayengbam Loken (28) of Komlakhong Mayai Leikai; Wahengbam Milan (25) of Sekmaijin Mamang Leikai and Ningthoujam Robin (24) of Moirang Lamkhai.
All three of them are among the labourers engaged in the ongoing construction work of a bridge over Lanva river running across the National Highway 150 .
Recounting the incident, the three victims said that they were returning to their Khola (makeshift camp) after a stroll when three motorcycle borne armed persons speaking tribal dialect stopped them along the way and beat up within saying anything.
At first, the three armed persons snatched the mobile phones from Loken and Robin.
After blind-folded all three of them, the unidentified armed persons started beating them up.
Afterward, 14 to 15 persons also came and joined in the beating.
Apart from beating them with sticks and clubs, the attackers also hit them with stones/boulders.
While they were being assaulted, vehicles coming from either sides of the National Highways were not allowed to travel.
Unable to bear with the assault, Milan and Robin fainted on the ground.
Only then, the attackers left the place.
The two contractors of the bridge construction work namely Ningboi and Themthang brought them and admitted to Churachandpur district Hospital for treatment.
All three of them have been brought to RIMS Hospital here for further treatment by their respective families.
