Imphal, February 28 2012:
Acting on a strict instruction of Election Commission of India (ECI) for furnishing precise reports on the bogus votes at the soonest possible time the State Election Office has consequently sent the relevant reports after the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) convened a joint meeting with the Returning Officers (ROs) and District Election Officers (DEOs) concerned of all the problematic polling stations today.
Meanwhile, it is said that notification for re-poll in these problematic polling stations may be announced by tomorrow.
According to an official report, CEO convened a meeting in this office chamber at around 2 pm today.
The meeting was attended by District Election Officers (DEOs) of the five hill districts of the state and the Returning Officers (ROs) of all the problematic polling stations.
The meeting minutely discussed the instructions given by ECI and chalked out ways and means to put it into practice.
The meeting also discussed necessary arrangements to be made in case of re-poll.
After the meeting concluded, the DEOs and the ROs stayed back at the office of the CEO and compiled the reports furnishing the precise number of polling stations where cases of proxy voting have been detected and forwarded the same to ECI through FAX and email.
The reports which have been sent today would be looked into seriously by the ECI before arriving at a decision on the exact number of polling stations where re-poll is to be conducted, the source disclosed, adding that most probably, ECI would announce the notification for re-poll by tomorrow.
As instructed by the ECI, an official team of State Election Office would be leaving Delhi tomorrow and handing over the hard copies of the compiled reports.
All necessary arrangements for submitting the hard copies of the required reports have been made, the source revealed.
