International Biodiversity Day observed across districts

A lengthy deliberation
on diversity of life in the planet
was held as part of the
celebration of International
Day for Biological Diversity at
Ukhrul district.
Rinshang Pheiray, speaking
as a resource person,
spoke on the interrelation of
all living organisms that are
found in the planet.
He said that disturbing the
web of life would cause severe
ecological imbalances
and endanger the existence of
living beings in the whole
ecosystem.
Land, water, forest and life
are the basic diversified components
of the biosphere
which provide habitation for
all organisms.
DFO, Ukhrul Shanngam
(IFS) elaborated on the relevance
of the theme "Our
Biodiversity, Our Food, Our
Health" of the International
Biodiversity Day.
He said that all living organisms,
whether big or
small, play vital roles in the
environment.
Citing the role of bees, he
stressed on the importance of
bee pollination in survival.
He highlighted the role and
responsibilities of
Biodiversity Management
Committee in their respective
villages.
Preservation and protection
of the biodiversity is a collective
responsibility for a
sustainable life, he added.
Gajendra Prasad Mohanty,
Project Director PASDO,
Ukhrul maintained that the
main purpose of celebrating
the day is to create massive
awareness on the need of
conserving biodiversity.
He said that PASDO in
collaboration with the Ukhrul
villages constituted 20
Biodiversity Management
Committees (BMC).
PASDO, as part of intensification
of awareness
campaign programme, organised
a three day capacitation
programme for BMC villages
under the aegis of Ukhrul
Forest Division.
As part of the celebration,
a drawing and painting competition
was organised for the
students.
Headmen, BMC members,
schools students and PASDO
staff attended the celebration
held at Phila Food Training
Centre, PASDO office Complex
Khuilungtang Dungrei
Hungpung, Ukhrul district.
SENAPATI: Joining the
rest of the world, the Senapati
Forest Division observed the
'International Biological Diversity
Day at Mt Everest Hr
Sec School, Taphou in
Senapati district under the
theme, "Our Biodiversity, Our
Food, Our Health."
The programme was attended

DFO, Senapati; Gonmei, Acting
Principal, Mt Everest

As part of the programme,
painting competition under
the same theme was also held
for 2 different categories - for
Class IX & X and for Class
XI & XII in which students
of different schools from the
district including Mt Everest

Hr Sec School; Mt Zion Hr
Sec School; Bethany Hr Sec
School; Don Bosco Hr Sec
School; Sardar Patel High
School, Mao; St Anthony
High School; Brook Dale Hr
Sec School; Govt High
Schools such as Paomata
Govt High School and Oinam
Hill Govt High School took
part in the competition.
Meanwhile, Mao Area
Biodiversity Management
Committee observed the International
Biodiversity Day
on the theme "Our
Biodiversity Our food and
Our health" at Tadubi town
Hall.
More than 100 people participated
in the programme.

An awareness trip using
loud speakers, spreading the
message of biodiversity was
taken out from Chandel to
Pallel.
JIRIBAM: Meanwhile,
the two days observation of
International Biodiversity
Day, organised by Manipur
Biodiversity Board, Forest
Head Office, Sanjenthong
and DFO Jiribam, wrapped
up at Jiribam Model High
School today.

The dignitaries planted tree
saplings with an aim to protect
biodiversity, reports our
correspondent.
A painting competition
was also held in which over
41 students participated and
winners of the competition
were also awarded by the
dignitaries.
Speaking at the function,
Adhyaksha Janaki stated that
humans depend on the nature
to survive and the humans
repay the kindness with deforestation
and exploitation.
She appealed all to be more
responsible and conscious
about the environment and halt
doing things that are harmful
to the ecosystem.
BISHNUPUR: Painting
and Slogan Writing Competition
was held on the occasion
of 'International Day for Biological
Diversity Day' at
Khordak in Thanga AC,
Bishnupur District on the
theme 'Biodiversity and Sustainable
Tourism' today.
The observance function
was organized by Wildlife Institute
of India (WII),
Dehradun in association with
Manipur Forest Department in
which up-pradhan Kha-
Thinungei GP, Ningthoujam
Krishnakumari; range officer,
Keibul Lamjao National Park
II, Md Talif Khan; local senior
citizen Tongbram Engellei and
Ningthoujam Sobha Singh attended
as presidium members.

'Biodiversity and Sustainable
Tourism' as resource person.
A total of 51 students from
6 different schools took part in
the painting and slogan writing
competition on the theme 'Our
Diversity Our Sangai' .

Day of Biodiversity 2019
was held at United Builders
School under the theme "Our
Biodiversity, Our Food, Our
Health" today.
