Imphal, April 22 2021:
The Manipur Hawkers' Association has strongly condemned the unruly treatments meted out to them while discharging their duties during the 48 hour bandh called by the members of Panchayati Raj Institutions.
Hawkers, who are key in disseminating information and providing essential services, faced mistreatments from the agitators including restriction of movements at various locations under Panchayat areas during the bandh hours, said the association in a statement.
The hawkers who had to wake up in the midnight and serve people from early morning, were even denied return to their respective residence even after showing their ID cards, the association added while ridiculing the disorganised bandh which do not even spare functioning of essential services.
Reminding the significance of hawkers in today's information dependent world, the association said that information has become an essential part of all and have been working closely with all media houses to ensure maximum service by even reducing the number of holidays.
Without caring for their own sake, the hawkers are also serving people amid the COVID-19 pandemic, the association said while reiterating all concerned who are calling or will be calling bandh to allow hawkers to serve without any kind of disturbance.
It also appealed to all its members to keep their ID cards with them while discharging duties and use stickers issued by the Association in
their respective vehicles.
